General Tips
Through a video call, we’ll give you detailed information on how to go about the college recruiting process.
Here are some basic general tips to get you going:
1) Record as many games as possible. The more you content you have to choose from the better.
2) Create an email and social media pages strictly dedicated to your recruiting process. Use the same username for all accounts.
3) Do not base your criteria for schools based on friends or teammates. Have a frank conversation with yourself, parents/ guardians, coaches, and teachers to help develop an idea for an suitable school.
4) Be Bold! While its important to remain professional always when engaging with college coaches, we strongly encourage you to be bold throughout the process. Coaches like athletes who have a strong sense of determination towards their goals.
5) Do not worry that you have not committed to a school yet. Everyone commits at different times and has a different story. It will come— trust the process ( as long as you have spend the time and have taken the right steps).
6) Besides soccer have an understanding of the social and academic elements your looking for in a school.
7) Go on as many college visits and overnights as possible. Being on campus helps to gage what the school is all about. This is where you can decide if you see yourself living there for the next four years.
8) Try to engage with members of the teams you are being recruited by as much as possible. Members of the team can give great insight into what the team culture and everyday life is like. You may find you want no part of the way a certain school operates or adversely think you’ll fit right in. Either way speaking with current players gives provides this insight.
9) College soccer is a full-time job. Make sure you take the proper precautions to last for the duration of the season.
10) Gain an understanding of the differences between Division’s one, two, and three. A common misconception is that the division determines the level of the school. This is NOT true (with the exception of the major division one schools). There are plenty of players that are division one caliber that end of at division three for a variety of reasons. Do NOT choose schools based on the “status” of going division one.
11) Be Proactive in your approach! Keep up with coaches to attend games keeping them up to date with any upcoming fixtures. Ask questions to show them your continued interest in the school
